Roosevelt's History

Roosevelt Elementary (K-6) addition was founded in 1949.  Even though the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recognizes Roosevelt as a K-6 school; our 6th grade was placed in the Junior High Building with 7th and 8th grade students for high school readiness.  Roosevelt was named after our Theodore Roosevelt, 26th U.S. President.

Roosevelt Elementary serves about 300 students who reside in School District 148 located in Dolton, Illinois.  There are residence boundaries for students who attend Roosevelt.  This ensures that District 148 schools provide adequate teacher:student ratios for quality teaching and learning in the classroom.  Our teachers are very caring and dedicated professionals who genuinely care about children having a positive and rewarding learning experiences.  In addition, our Roosevelt teachers and staff really value taking the time to know every family.  We strongly advocate positive relationships in and outside of the school.  Our teachers and staff are a cohesive and collaborative team of professionals who have deep pride in our school.  Moreover, it is not uncommon for our graduate students to come back and visit us because they have enjoyed their experiences at our school.

Roosevelt Elementary has SmartBoard technlogy in every classroom; access to classroom computers, provides students with computer lab coursework, and wireless Internet capabilities.  We offer Before and After School Programs that begin in the Fall and it is important that parents who are interested in enrolling their children in the programs adhere to the deadline dates to ensure that we have the appropriate number of staff to support the programs.  In addition, we offer parents Open House Days and Parenting 101 classes to help parents to learn what we do because we see 'parents as partners' in their children's development.

Roosevelt Elementary School has won many awards and accomplishments over the years and was named a Illinois Spotlight School.  We believe in "The Ram Way" and our mascot is the ram.  The RAM is acronym that stands for Raising Achievement and Merit in everything that we do! Our District 148 Mission statement is to "Empower Every Child."
