Principal's Note

Hello Parents,

May is here! Do you believe it? First, I'd like to thank the many families who prayed for my daughter and me while she had her surgery and recovered. I am amazed and thrilled to tell you that she is back to school full time, driving, and catching up on the work she missed. Your prayers supported us. I never felt alone. Thank you. I am blessed to work at Riverdale School!

This year, we've used fundraising money to pay for the incentive field trip to Navy Pier and to provide treats for the students monthly throughout the year. I want to thank you for supporting our fundraisers (Box Tops ... keep them coming, school store, dress down days, candy sale, taffy apple sale). Every penny we raise goes back to the students (except for the funds explicitly raised for an outside organization like Partners for Health in Haiti or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). Your support makes us able to provide a treat for the students every now and then. Thank you!

ArcelorMittal, a steel plan in Riverdale, donated $5,000 to Riverdale School this year. We used it to buy science and math hands-on learning materials that the students will begin to use in the fall. ArecelorMittal will also help us with a planting project in front of the school, and they will paint some play areas on the playground out back. We are thrilled and thankful to have their support!

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you that, due to the state's budget cuts, we are losing two classrooms and their teachers for next year. What a huge loss for Riverdale School. Please join me in wishing them the best as they forward in their careers.

Thank you Mr. Wallace, father of Lanesia Richardson in Mrs. Taff's room, for volunteering your services for our Treat Day on May 7th. He will DJ a dance session for those students who have enough tickets to attend. As always, we lie to reward good behavior at Riverdale School. Thank you, Mr. Wallace, for making it happen.
