Institute Day in District 148
The day’s tone was celebratory – from the blue and white balloons throughout the Lincoln School gym to the congratulatory and motivational remarks by district administrators and others who spoke. Faculty, staff, administrators and school board members also were treated to breakfast provided by Preferred Meals. The morning meal was served up by central office staff members. The highlight of the event came when banners recognizing various schools’ academic achievements were unveiled and presented to building principals by Superintendent Jayne Purcell, Assistant Superintendent Patricia Moore, and Director of Support Programs Candace Dunleavy. The banners will soon be on display outside the individual schools. Dr. Purcell ended her announcement of the commendations received by Park, Franklin, Harriet Tubman, Roosevelt, Lincoln and Washington elementary schools and Roosevelt, Lincoln and Washington Junior High schools from the Illinois State Board of Education by saying, “I need to tell you, that’s something to celebrate.” The staff at Riverdale Elementary School also was singled out for praise for their dedication and commitment to improving student achievement this year through the Success For All comprehensive school reform program. “They are getting ready to become the best school in the district,” Purcell said.
