Riverdale School students treated to Honor Roll Breakfast
Riverdale School students who made the Honor Roll during the first grading quarter of the school year earned recognition recently from the principal, teachers, and school staff. More than 75 students were treated to a first-ever Honor Roll Breakfast on Friday, November 13th. Youngsters in Kindergarten through Grade 4 dined on donuts and juice in the school gym and many were joined by their parents or other family member for the morning celebratory meal. Deserving students also received Principal’s Award certificates, Perfect Attendance, and Citizenship awards, according to Principal Dr. Kathy Conroy. All Kindergarten students were honored for coming to school and doing their best. Students in Grades 1 through 3 earned Honor Roll recognition for achieving all E's and G's on their report card and those who garnered all E's received Principal’s Award status. Fourth grade students with 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average in all subject areas received High Honors and those with a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average received Honors recognition. Third grade Teacher Jackie Garwood, who brought the Honor Roll Breakfast idea to the school, said this is one way to help encourage students to continue achieving. She invited parents and children to spread the word about the breakfast incentive to others in the community. Conroy said students will be honored each grading quarter. Next grading period, she said, the school will add Bringing Up Grades (B.U.G) recognition for students who demonstrate academic improvement.
