RtI - Response to Intervention

The district staff get training on the interventions being used in schools.

Response to Intervention (RtI) is an initiative that brings educators together to meet the common challenge of providing quality education to all students. The Illinois State Board of Education requires all school districts to implement the use of RtI as of the 2010-2011 school year. All district schools are implementing the RtI process.

21st CCLC Program

The 21st Century Program in School District 148 is designed to provide a safe, nurturing after-school environment for students. The program provides meaningful and engaging experiences that are geared towards increasing student achievement. A+nywhere Learning Systems is the name of the software program that students utilize in the after-school program. This program is researched-based and is proven to be an effective tool in helping students learn reading and math skills. The program works by first having students take an assessment on the computer. Lessons are then specifically created for the students. The A+ program caters to the individual needs of each student. If you have any questions or if you would like to learn more about the 21st century program in School District 148 please contact Cynthia Marks 708-878-5203. Click here to find out more.

SES Program

SES stands for Supplemental Educational Services and is a federally funded program that provides the opportunity for students to receive tutoring at no cost to their families. School District 148 is responsible for honoring the choices that parents make regarding SES Providers. SES Providers must be state approved and based upon their hourly cost they provide tutoring on a weekly basis, in efforts to improve student achievement. In order for your child to be eligible to receive supplemental educational services, he/she must come from a low-income family and attend a Title I school that is in its second year of school improvement, in corrective action or in restructuring. As there maybe a limited number of spaces available in the SES program, the district cannot guarantee that all students will be able to participate. For more information, please contact Dr. Patricia Moore, Assistant Superintendent, at 708-841-3508..

Dr. Candace K. Dunleavy
Director of Support Programs

District 148 offers a continuum of special education services to children with disabilities consistent with state and federal mandates. In order to ensure all children with disabilities in District 148 have available to them a free and appropriate public education, Support Programs promotes leadership, advocacy and collaboration among parents, educators, students and other support personnel. In order to provide optimum learning experiences to meet the specialized needs of every child, we provide a variety of quality, research-based programs using high rates of positive prompts and instruction. Since our belief is success for all our students, we encourage meaningful collaboration between regular education teachers and special education teachers in building effective, data-driven programs. These provide our students access to knowledge and self-confidence thereby enhancing their lives as they grow into responsible citizens. We work as catalysts to promote and provide best practices because it is our belief that when students are provided the opportunities and given the instruction that embraces their strengths, they can learn. Support Programs champions highly- qualified staff, quality education, and the fostering of teamwork with all of the stakeholders, most importantly parents, in order to maximize learning potential as our students strive for excellence.
