Students in Dolton West Elementary District 148’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school program had the opportunity to watch the Chicago White Sox play the Tampa Bay Rays at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday, April 20th.
The event was the final 21st Century program field trip of the current school year.
More than 200 students from Roosevelt Elementary and Junior High Schools, Lincoln, Park, and Washington Elementary Schools, along with several teachers, parents, and administrators, joined students at the night game. Once the sun went down, many coped with the unseasonably cold temperatures by bundling up in winter jackets, gloves, scarves, and blankets.
Students and adults munched on hot dogs, cotton candy, nachos and more throughout the evening and cheered as the White Sox broke a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Rays. They and other fans jumped to their feet as they witnessed home runs hit by Paul Konerko and Andruw Jones, and enjoyed the accompanying fireworks.
For some of the students, this was their first time at U.S. Cellular Field.

This youngster was accompanied by her older sister. The unseasonably
cold temperatures had many children and adults wrapped in winter jackets,
scarves, blankets, and gloves.

This sudent found a way to keep warm.

These two didn't seem to mind the cold weather.*
