August 2011 Welcome to the 2011-12 school year! We have been busy preparing for the start of this academic year. Our buildings are clean and polished. A fresh coat of asphalt and striping has been applied to our parking lots. Supplies and materials are in place and our teachers, staff, and administrators are ready to help your children become lifelong and successful learners. We invite you to partner with us in carrying out our motto for the year: “Achieving Excellence Together!” District 148 begins the year with some existing staff members in new positions including Mrs. Karen Marshall as Director of Technology and Mr. John Donermeyer as Data Analyst/Software Specialist. New leadership also is in place at Washington Elementary and Junior High schools with Ms. Joanna Sharp as principal and This year also marks the second year of our Star Assessment program. These tests allow us to better measure student learning in both reading and math. Beginning this year, the assessments will provide us with more detailed reports regarding students’ academic progress and we will use this information to continue to enhance learning through differentiated instruction. We encourage you to stay involved in your child’s education. Please stop by and see some of the positive happenings in our schools during upcoming events and activities. Those opportunities include Elementary Open House, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14th, and Junior High Open House, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15th. Both Open Houses will take place at your child’s school. We also look forward to your participation in Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, Nov. 10th and Thursday, April 5th, and to seeing you in our schools during our annual Bring Your Parent to School Day on Friday, Feb. 10th. Wishing you and your child a rewarding school year! Sincerely,
