RJH inducts National Junior Honor Society members
Ten Roosevelt Junior High School seventh and eighth grade students have earned the distinction of being inducted in their school’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. During the 26th Annual Induction Ceremony held Tuesday, May 11th in the school gymnasium, the following students pledged to uphold the Society’s key principles of leadership, scholarship, character, service, and citizenship: Dante Medford, Issa Wright, Shontierra Anderson, Cierra Bolton, Kenneth Jones, Kierra Jones, Zaaria Jordan, Preston Mays, Alexander McMullen, and Brianna Washington. Eligibility in the National Junior Honor Society ( NJHS) is open to students with a 3.2 grade point average for the first two quarters of the school year, a demonstration of the Honor Society’s values, and teacher input. “This event marks the recognition of work well done,” said Joyce Lueder, Roosevelt Junior High School media specialist and NJHS adviser. Each new inductee signed his or her name in the school’s NJHS chapter registry and received a membership pin and certificate from Principal Shalonda Randle. Principal Randle also presented pins to current NJHS officers and active members Kaitlin Tate, president; Torrian Akins, vice president; Clifford Holman, historian; Ariana Owens, treasurer; Adam Johnson, secretary; and members Olamide Adebogun, Albert Cox, Meshawn Moore, Robert Robinson, Kyle Tate, and Paris White. “They have truly exemplified what it means to be a National Junior Honor Society member,” Principal Randle said. Each of the five officers lit a gold, red, purple, green or white candle representing the Society’s ideals. As they proceeded out of the gym at the conclusion of the solemn ceremony, current and new NJHS members lit their own individual white candle as a symbol of their intent to go forward and give light to others.
Each new NJHS inductee signed his or her name into the RJH chapter registry.
