Roosevelt Elementary School moms and
more get ‘spa’ treatment

This mother and son enjoyed their time together during Roosevelt Elementary School’s
Annual Mother’s Day Spa.

Dolton West Elementary District 148 Superintendent Dr. Jayne E. Purcell gets her
nails polished by two first grade girls during the May 7th event. The superintendent

Roosevelt Elementary School moms, aunts, grandmothers, and other special women got new, polished looks from first-graders during this year’s Mother’s Day Spa event.

Mothers and other guests were greeted by the children as they walked a makeshift plastic “red carpet” into the Dolton school’s gymnasium on Friday, May 7th. They posed for pictures together before settling down to hear the first grade students sing a touching rendition of Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”.

The youngsters served punch and cookies to their moms and treated them to hand and back massages, manicures, and makeup applications.
The annual pre-Mother’s Day beauty session is intended to honor Roosevelt’s first grade mothers and let them know they are appreciated by the children and the school.

“It’s special because you are doing something for your mom,” one boy explained.

The children also presented their moms with homemade Mother’s Day cards, a magnet spelling out the word ‘MOM’ complete with the student’s photo inside the letter ‘O,” and laminated and decorated placemats bearing the message: “I will always hold you in my heart.”

Asked why he wanted to pamper his mother, one young boy replied, “Because I love my mother every day.”
