Some Lincoln Avenue School students recently helped welcome a new grocery store to town.

Fourth-graders from Vivian Smith’s and Theresa Habenschuss’ classes attended and sang the school’s theme song, “Stay in School,’ during an October 30th Grand Opening celebration at the new Food 4 Less store in Dolton. The grocer donated a $2,500 check to the school.

Principal Michael Winston said plans for the funds have not yet been finalized but he expects some of the money will be used to purchase music instruments for the school, help fund field trips for students, and will also go toward a pizza lunch for the two fourth grade classrooms that participated in the Grand Opening event.

Music and lyrics for Lincoln School's “Stay in School” song were written by music Teacher Aubrey Rivers.
